The first ever Metaverse Architecture Biennale is set to bring together creators from around the world to explore the transformative power of architecture and design in shaping the future of the virtual realm. With advancements in the metaverse reshaping the human experience, artists and designers are increasingly turning to web3 to push the boundaries of creative expression and business development.
Taking place from 21 September to 6 October 2023, the Biennale’s exhibition will be hosted in Decentraland and W3rlds, creating a vast virtual space for a display of digital pavilions. Zaha Hadid Architects, HWKN, Killa Design, PLP Architecture, Spaces DAO, iheartblob, and more will come together to explore the theme of “Presence of the Future” alongside cultural and technological trends.
The Biennale will feature a three-day public program that includes pavilions, panels, discussions, and live entertainment events. Renowned architects like Soomeen Hahm, Filippo Lodi, Christian Tschersich, and Matthias Hollwich will discuss the impact of web3 culture and the role architects will continue to play in shaping virtual landscapes. Industry figures Regina Turbina and Nataliya Grimberg will share expertise on the rise of digital fashion in the metaverse. Additionally, a panel discussion will focus on the business side of the web3 and metaverse, exploring trends, expectations, and real-world case studies.
One of the highlights of the exhibition is the Proscenium Pavilion by iheartblob. This pavilion challenges conventional perceptions of reality and explores the transformative potential of AI in spatial design. Featuring a central grand staircase, it represents the bridge between the digital and physical realms.
Another striking exhibition is Labyrinthine Ascent by Shashwat Prakhar, which presents an intricate fusion of design and symbolism. It showcases the architectural evolution within the metaverse, symbolizing progress and potential. The project seamlessly transitions between Decentraland and W3rlds, celebrating the convergence of diverse experiences.
Symbiocene Living by PLP Architecture introduces a distinct architectural concept aligned with the ideals of the Symbiocene, an epoch characterized by ecological collaboration. It envisions a future where architecture embraces a symbiotic relationship with nature, reshaping design accordingly. Visitors can explore a digital journey through the pavilion, symbolizing the transition from the Anthropocene to the Symbiocene.
Meta Mansion, presented by a group of meta architects, redefines luxury in virtual architecture by embracing web3 and the decentralized blockchain network of the metaverse. The project showcases the fusion of architecture, fashion, and nature, emphasizing fluidity and integration with the natural environment.
NESA’s LingoVerse offers visitors a self-reflective experience within a surreal architectural context. Avatars can interact with words, offering a dynamic journey of ascension and connection. The pavilion exhibits words from different alphabets and realms, immersing visitors in an unlimited world.
Spaces DAO’s Beyond the Echoes explores the intersection of art and architecture within virtual design, questioning the nature of metaverse architecture. The project challenges the idea that metaverse architecture must cater only to avatars and lack traditional structural elements. Inspired by artists like Kandinsky and Bosch, Spaces DAO’s design prompts us to consider the possibility of inhabiting art in the metaverse.
The Metaverse Architecture Biennale is a unique event that showcases the convergence of architecture, design, and technology in shaping the future of the virtual realm. With a diverse range of exhibitions and discussions, it provides a platform for creators to explore new possibilities and push the boundaries of creativity in the metaverse.
The event will take place from 21-24 September 2023 in Decentraland and W3rlds, featuring participants such as HWKN, Killa Design, LAVA, PLP, ATRIUM, Soomeen Hahm, Spaces DAO, DA!, Il Prisma, SA lab, iheartblob, Mariana Cabugueira, and Illusorr. The Biennale is organized by W3rlds, Dearch Space, Metancy, and Web3 Digital Marketing.
