Shaw Contract, a global flooring company, has announced the winners of its 2023 Shaw Contract Design Awards. The awards recognize projects that promote positive change and have a meaningful impact on interior spaces and people’s lives. The judging panel, consisting of international experts, evaluated over 650 submissions from 40 countries based on design intent and Shaw Contract’s four key principles: Material Health, Circular Economy, Carbon Impact, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Out of the 39 regional winners, five projects stood out and were awarded the Best of Globe distinction. The winners included Eckenhoff Saunders for their project in Subiaco, Australia, which focused on creating a flexible and functional workspace. HOK was recognized for their work on a commercial office building in Chicago that drew inspiration from the area’s industrial history. Tatsuro Sasaki Architects received an award for the design of Boston Consulting Group’s Canadian headquarters in Toronto, which prioritized sustainability and employee well-being. SWOT Design Group was honored for their project for Naelofar, a Muslim modest wear brand, in Malaysia, which aimed to create a productive and personalized workplace. Finally, Rezen Studio was recognized for their design of OMO5 Kumamoto, a hotel in Kumamoto City, Japan, that seamlessly integrated sustainability and local elements.
Each Best of Globe winner received a $2,000 charitable donation in their studio’s name, as well as a trophy made by crochet artist Kelly Limerick using eco-friendly materials. The winning projects showcased innovative design, sustainability, and a strong connection to their respective communities. From creating flexible workspaces to incorporating green elements and utilizing recycled materials, these projects demonstrated the power of design to transform interior spaces and enrich lives.
