Makina Watches Unveils Andras_I: A Sportier Take on the Classic Rectangular Watch

Makina Watches, a Philippines-based watch brand, has recently introduced their latest model, the Makina Andras_I. This timepiece takes a fresh approach to the archetype of three-handed rectangular watches, infusing it with a sporty and modern aesthetic. The brand transforms the classic design into a contemporary masterpiece, crafted with minimalist and geometric forms.

The Andras_I watch comes in a sleek stealth black color, with an encasing composed of angular shapes that contribute to its multifaceted design. The combination of gloss and brushed surfaces, along with pronounced edges, ensures both style and comfort. The dial features a contemporary matte finish and adds depth to the overall design. Completing the ensemble is a shapely strap that complements the chiseled case, embodying the watch’s 3-dimensional aesthetic.

Designed by Makina Watches’ founder, Danilo Villanueva Jr, the Andras_I watch was developed to create an imposing presence from every angle. Its overall octagonal shape purposefully tapers around a circular movement, resulting in a wearable form that is 33mm wide, 44mm lug to lug, and a slender 10.5mm thickness. The dial showcases polished metallic indices as hour markers, mirroring the shape of the sword-like hands. Painted in a distinctive blue hue, these markers ensure high legibility under various lighting conditions. A unique addition to the Andras_I is the elliptical shape carving into the bottom layer for the seconds markers, which adds a distinct face to the watch.

Makina Watches has also utilized high-quality materials to ensure durability and a premium finish. The case is made of PVD-coated surgical grade 316L stainless steel, which is water-resistant up to 50m. The combination of gloss and brushed surfaces enhances the robustness of the watch. The dial is made of layered brass, and the scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass is coated with 3x AR coating for added protection. The silicone strap, equipped with a deployant clasp, strikes a perfect balance between durability and comfort.

Turning the timepiece over reveals a flat back, enhancing comfort and showcasing the Sellita SW260-1 movement in gold. This movement is commonly found in luxury timepieces and pays homage to Makina Watches’ visual identity. Despite its premium features, the Andras_I watch remains accessible, with a price point of US $725.

Makina Watches continues to push the boundaries of design and craftsmanship with their Andras_I model. By transforming the classic rectangular watch into a sportier and more modern iteration, the brand has created a timepiece that is both stylish and functional. With its sleek aesthetic, high-quality materials, and attention to detail, the Andras_I is sure to appeal to watch enthusiasts and fashion-forward individuals alike.
