Ms MIN, a fashion brand founded by Liu Min and Ian Hylton in 2010, has opened a new retail space in Taikoo Li, Shanghai. Designed by Neri&Hu, the store draws inspiration from traditional fabric ateliers, highlighting craftsmanship, quality materials, and a domestic feel.

Neri&Hu’s design for the Ms MIN Retail Space divides the space using partitions made of brass, green marble, and limestone. On one side, a wooden structure resembling an atelier greets visitors and serves as a reception area and studio. On the other side, wooden structures are arranged in an open grid with cloths hanging in between, creating lightweight partitions. These fabric screens filter natural light and the bustling atmosphere of the Taikoo Li mall, creating a serene and light-filled environment for shoppers.

An internal courtyard separates the atelier and the wooden cloth racks. The courtyard is paved with curved roof tiles, giving it a traditional touch. Panels are arranged in the courtyard, creating interconnected exhibition spaces that can be customized for different seasonal collections. Custom mannequin figures made with linen add a subtle texture reminiscent of human skin. Additionally, a lighting design by Viabizzuno enhances the color palette in the store, creating warmer tones as one moves away from the windows.

Overall, the Ms MIN Retail Space by Neri&Hu pays homage to the history and heritage of textile-making, showcasing the brand’s emphasis on fabric and fit. The thoughtful design creates a calm and inviting atmosphere for shoppers to browse and explore at their own pace.
