The unique design of the buildings, with their metallic gabled roofs and curved glazed plinths, stands out against the scenic landscape of Zakopane. The roofs are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional, allowing for the quick disposal of snow during the winter months. The large eaves provide protection against rain, while the undercut design maximizes the amount of sunlight that enters the buildings during the colder months.
The name of the project, ‘Nest boxes,’ is inspired by the black volumes of the buildings, which resemble bird feeders or nest boxes. This choice of design adds a touch of whimsy to the structures, while also paying homage to the natural surroundings.
One of the main goals of the project is to create a development that respects the unique characteristics of the location. By drawing inspiration from local traditional architecture and integrating with the mountain climate’s requirements, Superhelix Studio has achieved this objective. The structures are arranged close to each other to avoid large height differences, creating a harmonious and cohesive development.
Each unit covers an area of 128 sqm and is spread out over three floors. The living area is located on the ground floor, offering breathtaking views of the Tatra mountains. The corners of the buildings are entirely glazed to provide panoramic outlooks. The curved glass surfaces create a seamless visual experience, removing any obstructions and allowing for uninterrupted views. The remaining two floors house the sleeping area, providing privacy and tranquility.
